STOP MOTION
Stopmotion is a technique in which a video is created by the succession of images, in this way an inanimate object could seem like it moves. Having this clear, we have prepared an activity using this tool. Here you can find the instructions for developing this activity:
The activity will be developed during three tutorial hours. This activity is planned for this kind of hours since the last objective of it is to cooperate in class and create a better environment, so that our students could get to know each other better.

The first day of the activity would be dedicated to the explanation of what stopmotion is, telling the students that in a stopmotion, we have to achieve an animated video with a lot of photos. After this little explanation, children will conform their teams of three or four people and together they will go to the computer room in order to search for the recipe of the cake that they will create. Once they have located it, they will copy it on a paper so as to have it ready for the next day and follow the steps.
That day the teacher will tell students that for the next day they should bring to class all the materials needed for carrying out their recipe, such as the ingredients and the cookware.
The second day will be the big day, in which they are going to cook, taking pictures of every moment and step they take. This is a really important part of the activity, as, if the pictures aren’t taken, we wouldn’t be able to create the final video.
That day, we will organize the class so as to make it easier to cook, joining tables and collecting the chairs if necessary. The first thing they have to do is to measure the quantities of each ingredient that will conform the dough of our cake. Once we have done this, follow the recipe, mixing the ingredients that it indicates in the correct order. Finally, when the dough is done, we will carry it to the bakery oven in the canteen, also, we have contacted with a bakery that will let us use its oven too. When the cakes are baked, we will collect them from the bakery or the canteen and they will be ready and perfect to eat in other sesion of the tutorial hours.

The last day, but not for this less important, will be the one in which, with all the photos, each group will go again to the computer room and download the program “Filmora” (the QR code of this program is in the folder we indicate below), with which they will create the final video joining all the pictures, which should be similar to this one: https://youtu.be/1-m7yLSOqU4 (the video is also inserted below). This would be the final product of our activity.

Now that the activity is finished, the following day in the tutorial hour will be spent to eat the cakes they have created. This will improve the environment in the class, and, since this activity will be done when the course is starting and they don’t know their classmates too much, it will also help to establish new relationships among them.

The power point that the teacher can project in class for explaining the activity can be found here (it is added in the folder in google drive as well):

To continue with, we should say that the activity we are presenting in this portfolio is not exactly the one that we presented in our fair, as we have made some improvements always trying to do it better, taking into account and reflecting about the mistakes we could have made, no matter how small they are, because the final aim is to do it the best posible and suggestions are always welcome. Now, we will explain which are the rectifications made:

To start with, we have added another way of explaining the instructions for performing the activity, so that they could be found written on a paper, redacted with some extra details that didn’t appear before in the power point. Moreover, the power point is also available and it could be used by the teacher to project it in class and explain the activity to children.

Furthermore, the power point mentioned before has suffered some advancements as well. The letter that was used before was Comic Sans MS and now we have changed it to Arial, which seems more profesional and is more adequate for the presentation. In addition, some pictures that seemed a bit old fashioned have been replaced for others that we hope would be more suitable.

Another important aspect to change was reducing the number of standards, since we had been very optimistic thinking that our students could pass a lot of them only with this activity, so now we have done a reflection and, under a more realistic point of view, they have been reduced to one third of the initial ones. Thus, we think that now they are appropiate for being evaluated.

To conclude, we have specified the reasons why the activity is programmed for the tutorial hours, nailing down the consequences that it would have for our pupils.

Concerning the poster and the video there haven’t been any relevant corrections as the critiques we received from them were always positive and detached good feelings from the people who gave feedback on it.
